Many leaders seek to develop own leadership by learning new leadership tools and theories. The most important tool of all, though, is the leader himself. This fact tend to be forgotten in all the development work... Since the leader is his own most important tool, it is also one of the most important responsibilities to care for maintaining the "self" in a good condition. Every day, year after year.
People have body, mind and soul - and good leadership requires nourishing and balancing all three parts. The body, quite a lot of leaders are tending to, taking care of and listening to it - but e.g. stress is related to forgetting listening to the clever body. The soul, it somehow just is what it is. The question is, does it get a chance to express itself?
And then we have the mind. Most leaders take it for granted. Or are not aware of the mind or how it works. We believe that the mind is the single most important factor for practising leadership. With parallels to you pc hard disc - with an overcrowded, slow or overloaded hard disc, it becomes less valuable which (leadership) software programmes, you have installed. They will run poorly or not at all.
This is where mindfulness comes into the picture.
Mindfulness has to do with stopping your autopilot, which keeps you from grasping and responding adequately to the world around us. Through training of presence and attention. Mindfulness develops the leader's personal judgement. In addition, a range of sought-after leadership skills are developed, such as creativity, understanding the big picture and appreciative approach to other people and their potentials.
